Who we are

The East London Waste Authority (ELWA) was established on 1 January 1986 as a Statutory Waste Disposal Authority (WDA), responsible for the disposal of waste collected by the London Boroughs of Barking & Dagenham, Havering, Newham and Redbridge.

Re-opening of RRCs

The Reuse and Recycling Centres (RRCs) at Chigwell Road, Frizlands Lane, Gerpins Lane and Jenkins Lane re-opened on Monday 11 May 2020 following temporary closure due to COVID-19. There is important information you should read before you visit, including changes to access routes.

We continue to experience long queues since re-opening, so please limit your visits to essential travel only and consider whether you can store your waste at home or arrange to have it collected by your local council.  For more information on collection services in your borough, please visit:
